Leprosy Vaccine Research
Leprosy is curable using Multi Drug Therapy, a combination of three drugs taken for 6 months to 1 year. This anti-biotic treatment is powerful and effective. If leprosy is diagnosed in time and the treatment administered many of the disabling and stigmatising effects of leprosy can be avoided.
Wouldn’t it be much better if leprosy could be prevented altogether. Just imagine the untold suffering that could be avoided. TLM and its partners dream of a day when a vaccine for leprosy will be available. That day, we believe is coming soon, but it requires that we act now. TLM Ireland supports its partner American Leprosy Missions in spearheading the search for a leprosy vaccine.
Developing a vaccine will ultimately result in the eradication of leprosy. Along the way, the programme will bring some other key benefits, most notably earlier diagnosis and therefore improved treatment for those who already suffer from this cruel disease.
Right now we need people and institutions who will commit financially to this development that will ultimately change the course of medical history. Imagine being able to say that you helped eradicate the world’s oldest known disease!
