welcome

The Leprosy Mission (TLM) Ireland, an Irish charity is the oldest branch of The Leprosy Mission International, globally recognised as a world leader in leprosy care, cure, rehabilitation and prevention. Key skills and competencies acquired over a 135 year history as an effective international development agency are applied across a range of other diseases and developmental issues beyond leprosy: all targeted at reducing poverty, stigma, oppression, marginalization, prejudice and injustice and towards the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals.

TLM Ireland works closely with its partners to deliver holistic community development aid, emergency and disaster relief. Partnership is at the heart of TLM’s work. We partner with national governments, local communities, international agencies and other non governmental agencies. Our work is resourced by private and corporate donations and by Irish Aid. Donations to TLM are recognized by The Revenue Commissioners for Section 848A tax relief.

TV Network Bans Irish Leprosy Mission’s Advertisement as too graphic!

“But if we avert our eyes are we condemning others to endure unimaginable suffering?”

“Buruli Ulcer is a disease, closely related to leprosy that causes unimaginable suffering, in both children and adults.  However, like all of the neglected tropical diseases, if treated early it costs very little to cure. Our TV advertisement would have made a big difference to many thousands of children and adults with the disease, but we weren't allowed to show it in case caused distress to viewers! We may avert our eyes, but the suffering and distress this disease causes to people in the developing world will not go away.

“Even though many of the more graphic images of suffering were blurred through pixilation, it was still deemed too painful for the viewing public to watch.  Are we guilty of tolerating absurd double standards in what we are allowed to see on television?  In averting our eyes, are we condemning others to unimaginable suffering?  Click here to see what you could not watch on your TV, and make a difference for  these very vulnerable people by helping us to help end their suffering,” Ken Gibson, Chief Executive, The Leprosy Mission.

SUNGLASSES INSTEAD OF SOCKS PLEASE!
Every Christmas we all buy and receive gifts that we don’t really need. How many pairs of socks can one man wear in a year? How much soap or perfume can you really use? This year, why not buy a Gift to Remember, a meaningful gift that will change a life in the developing world. For as little as €5 you could protect someone’s eyes from permanent damage.

Here’s how it works:
  - Decide how much you are likely to spend on a gift
  - Choose a Gift to Remember from The Leprosy Mission
  - The Leprosy Mission will send you a gift certificate
  - You can present this certificate to your friend or loved one at Christmas
  - Your donation is used to provide that item for someone in the developing world
  - You, and your friend or loved one both have the satisfaction of exchanging gifts and knowing that someone has really benefited.
